Lansing, Michigan – December 10, 2025
The Michigan State Bar Foundation is pleased to announce it has awarded over $102,500 in grants to support Autism Alliance of Michigan and Justice Speaks Legal Aid for innovative projects that advance justice for low-income individuals and families.
“We are honored to support these projects that strengthen family stability and expand access to justice. Through strategic grantmaking, MSBF invests in solutions that protect vulnerable families and improve outcomes across Michigan”, said Mary Gladstone-Highland, MSBF Director of Grants.
About the Projects
- Autism Alliance of Michigan was awarded $50,000 to host statewide workshops to educate families on special education rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The workshops will equip parents and caregivers with tools to navigate the system and file state complaints—an accessible option for addressing violations. Participants across Michigan’s ten prosperity regions will benefit, advancing equity and accountability in education.
- Justice Speaks Legal Aid was awarded up to $52,500 to launch Bridging the Gap, an initiative to prevent unnecessary foster care placements in Oakland County. The program will provide free legal representation, draft temporary caregiving arrangements, and offer caregiver education workshops. In addition to serving families, it anticipates building formal community partnerships to strengthen family stability and access to justice.
